Tairoa Lodge breathes new life in to historic building

Hawera, 2 August 2010 Tairoa Lodge in Hawera has recently relocated and breathed some new life in to the 80 – 100 year old Turuturu Scout Hall.

The historic building has been resited in the grounds of Steve and Linda Morrison’s property, Tairoa Lodge on Puawai Street.  Linda says “It’s not the first move for this building.  In a previous life it was the Gospel Church in Princes Street and was then moved to the corner of Fantham Street and State Highway 3, before moving two doors down to its former location”.

Re-named the Tairoa Church Hall, the building will now be used for private functions and to complement Tairoa Lodge as a wedding venue.  “We have added to the original cathedral windows with cathedral doors and coloured glass windows from the main hall and entrance way onto an extensive deck, for indoor/outdoor flow.  The beautiful matai and rimu floorboards have been polished to enhance their original beauty”, says Linda.

Tairoa Church Hall is the perfect venue for conferences, private dinner & lunch functions, meetings, weddings and even funerals.  Tairoa Church Hall stands very proudly in its new position within the established grounds and the quiet tranquil setting of Hawera’s Tairoa Lodge and Tairoa Cottage.

Tairoa Lodge (Qualmark 4-Star Plus), originally built in 1875 from kauri timber, is one of Hawera's oldest standing residences. The renovated Victorian villa offers boutique accommodation for guests in elegant and comfortable surrounds.

The self-contained Tairoa Cottage provides a perfect venue for romantic getaways, families, small private functions and corporate retreats.
